a-5 paintball marker: review

by your paintball hosts on January 30, 2009

A review on the a-5 paintball gun by Mr. Crunch.

The a-5 paintball gun is a very reliable all around marker. I have owned one for three years now and it has served me well over this period.

The a-5 paintball marker comes standard with a cyclone feed(tm) system which is a fast loading anti-chop mechanism. This allows you to play for prolonged periods with out having a single problem with your feed. The cyclone feed runs on the same carbon dioxide that powers the gun so no batteries are required for an expensive fast loading hopper. The a-5 can also be purchased with a response trigger that will make it possible to shoot nearly three times as fast, and there are no electric parts needed for either the feed system nor the response trigger. The cyclone combined with a response trigger makes for a deadly combination.

The a-5 has great abilities that allow it to rise over the competition such as: the cyclone feed system, an optional response trigger, a built in anti chop system, all mechanical operation, external adjustable velocity, and a high-capacity 225 round hopper. The a-5 marker paves the way for reliability in paintball. It can go for over a year without maintenance and still work flawless, even though regular maintenance is recommended for all markers, and that reliability makes it a great gun for intermediate to beginner players.

The a-5 marker isn’t meant to be exclusively for the beginning player, but as they grow to love the sport, the a-5 can grow with them, with hundreds of upgrade options. Once a player needs more from their a-5, they can upgrade nearly every part of it, as I did. With my m-16 apex barrel, Tippman x-7 hopper, collapsing stock, and CO2 remote-line it’s now easy to rise above the beginning expectation of the a-5. There are many more upgrades you can use, all according to your own taste and ideas. The a-5 is an extremely versatile gun and it goes well with all relevant upgrades.

Just like any paintball gun, however, the a-5 potentially has drawbacks. The a-5 is infamously a CO2 hog, guzzling nearly twice the amount of air per shot as other guns of it’s quality. It’s heavy and bulky and is difficult to adjust at times. But frankly, most of these cons are universal to any paintball gun that isn’t taken care of. Good, regular maintenance should solve most of the problems outlined above. That and a perhaps and expansion chamber to optimize the use of your CO2 and thus your money.

The upgrades and reliability make it a mid-priced marker, but the Tippmann a-5 is all any serious player will ever need. I have found it works best for all types of paintball , especially woodsball, but I am sure it can be converted into anything it needs to be. This gun has proven its reliability and effectiveness to me, and it can do the same for you.
